In this video, we look that the QNAP TS-253B Network Attached Storage Unboxing and Hard Drive Install
Solid and Sexy
The main thing we love about the QNAP TS-253B Network Attached Storage is its build quality and how well thought out the system is. It has pretty much everything you need for your home NAS setup.
Depending on your needs (and budget), the TS-253B can be configured in many many ways, 1TB to 16TB hard drives, Raid or no Raid, Media Server or not – the list is endless.
In this video, we simply installed the hard drives as a demostration of how easy that is, but this little box is so powerful, we will have to create a whole new video just on its features. As our test model had 4GB RAM, we can create Virtual Machines, transcode vidoes on the fly and even create own own webserver. Each of these options are configured via the QNAP Dashboard which you will find at power on – you can also download many more apps and services via the QNAP Market Place – all for free.
Inside the box you find the following:
Power Supply & Power Cable
Remote Control (with battery)
Network Cables (x2)
It is better to think of the NAS as a mini server, rather than a PC, this will go to help explain that boot times do take a while as the NAS needs to start services before giving you admin access. However, once booted, the NAS is solid as a rock and we have never experienced any issues while the NAS is running.
When you boot for the first time, you are presented with a wizard to help guide you through configuration for the first time. It will ask you how you would like your hard drives configured and which services you want to run.
Once configured you will have access over Windows, IOS or Unix to your hard drive shares and services configured.
